According to Daily Express (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have been recommended by Sir Alex Ferguson to sign Ronnie Edwards.
When seeing his son Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United, the Manchester United legend was allegedly impressed by the 18-year-old defender. And now the child has been brought to the attention of John Murtough.
The Portuguese went on to be given many nicknames during his stint at Old Trafford, of which one was ‘Ronnie’. The 36-year-old returned to the Theatre of Dreams this summer 12 years after he was sold by Sir Alex to Real Madrid.
Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire are both in their primes, while Victor Lindelof, at 27, still has many years ahead of him. However, it is never a bad idea to plan ahead of time.
There isn’t really a young centre-back making headlines at the club, and Ronnie Edwards could well be one for the future. The report adds that Ferguson could use his contacts at Peterborough to help United edge out clubs such as Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur, both of whom are said to be keen to sign the defender.
It remains to be seen if the club turns the recommendation into interest and then a formal offer. Until then, this is one deal that the fans can put on the backburner
